Npa Burst Syndicate, Seizes 249 Fake Truck Number Plates

The Nigerian Ports Authority has announced the seizure of 249 fake vehicle plate numbers and the discovery of 149 units of Minimum Safety Standard stickers. An undisclosed terminal was found to contain 169 vehicle plate numbers and 133 pieces of MSS stickers not attached to any truck. NPA introduced an electronic call-up system named ‘Eto’ to address traffic gridlock, but it was reportedly exploited by black marketers, leading to a significant increase in call-up prices.

The statement by NPA described the discovery as a move to combat the activities of individuals undermining the electronic truck traffic management system. The agency also confirmed that the terminal manager where the plate numbers and MSS stickers were found has been summoned for questioning, and the confiscated items are now in the possession of the authorities.

The agency emphasized the deliberate effort to sabotage the electronic call-up system and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the project and other process automation initiatives to enhance the maritime sector.
