Npfl Begins Doping Tests on Players

The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has initiated random drug tests for players in an effort to curb illicit substance use. This was revealed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, in a memorandum dispatched to all top-flight clubs. The tests, aimed at detecting doping violations, will be conducted on two players from each participating club without prior notification.

All 20 clubs have been instructed to facilitate the process for officials from the National Anti-Doping Committee and to cooperate fully with the anti-doping agency. The objective is to rid the NPFL of any existing or rumored doping scandals. Owumi cautioned that the Test Operatives must face no obstructions in carrying out their duties.

According to the memo, the Anti-Doping Committee has completed all necessary preparations for the implementation of the random drug tests, activating a Doping Control Systems office at all NPFL stadiums. All clubs are mandated to ensure seamless testing by the Committee, with the relevant operatives arriving at matches unexpectedly for the exercise, except for stadium access and player test submissions.

The testing procedure involves collecting samples from four players, two from each team, using target testing methods in compliance with the International Standard for Testing and Investigation and the FIFA Anti-Doping Rules.
