Nyesom Wike Concerned About Design of Abuja Metro Station

During a visit to the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Scheme, also known as the Abuja Light Rail Project, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, expressed his disappointment with the state of works at the station.

Accompanied by senior officials of the FCTA, Wike toured the Abuja Metro Station in the Central Business District and the Kukwaba II Train station, as well as the station’s access road, which is still under construction.

Wike’s visit was in preparation for the commissioning ceremony scheduled for May 2024, and he expressed dissatisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the light rail project. He also highlighted observable security lapses at the Abuja Metro Station.

Expressing his disappointment, Wike criticized the poor designs of the project, stating, “Whoever may have approved the designs is unfair to Nigerians. I’ve told CCECC that this kind of design is not even acceptable in their own country and if I had known before now, I would not have promised Mr. President that it would be ready.”

Wike further emphasized the potential disastrous consequences for him, stating that excuses would not be accepted. He expressed his concern about being misled by reports and stressed the importance of personally assessing the project’s progress.
