He is a symbol of cricket, and due to his milestone records and stats, people revered the 5’5” little master as the God of Cricket. 

He is the biggest factor why cricket exploded into popularity. Moreover, he made cricket a religion from sports in the subcontinent. 

Since making his debut for India at 16, Sachin has achieved almost everything one can dream of. 

From 100 international centuries to being the leading scorer in ODI (18,426) and Test (15,921) cricket, he has many more records to his name.

In 2011 Sachin finally got his hand at cricket’s most coveted prize (ICC World Cup) in India.

Sachin Tendulkar | Childhood and Early Years

Sachin Tendulkar, the famous Indian Cricketer, was born on 24th April 1973 in Dadar, Bombay, to his father, Ramesh Tendulkar, and mother, Rajni Tendulkar. 

Sachin’s father was a famous Marathi novelist and poet. Likewise, his mother was an insurance industry employee.

Sachin Tendulkar was named after Sachin Dev Burman, who was his father’s favorite music director.

He also has three elder half-siblings, half-brothers Nitin and Ajit, and a half-sister Savita from Ramesh’s first wife. 

Tendulkar spent most of his time in the Sahitya Saha Cooperative Housing Society during his childhood. 

He mostly used to pick fights with new children in his school and was considered a bully and troublemaker.

Before cricket, he played tennis, idolizing American tennis player John McEnroe. Later, in 1984 his brother Ajit introduced him to cricket to improve his behavior. 

Sachin’s first coach was reputed coach Ramakant Achrekar. But in their first meeting, Sachin didn’t play according to his talent. 

So, his brother requested to give him another opportunity. Later, while Ramakant hid behind the tree, Sachin showed his potential. 

Beginning of the cricketing journey

When Sachin trained under Ramakant, he studied at the Indian Education Society’s New English School. 

But, the coach advised him to transfer to Sharadashram Vidyamandir (English) High School after seeing his natural game.  

Sachin trained under Ramakant morning and evening at Shivaji Park. Due to a tight schedule, he moved near the park to stay with his uncle. 

Sachin practiced on the net for hours after completing the training. If he became tired, the coach placed a coin on stumps, and whoever dismissed him would get to keep it.

However, if Sachin completed the session without being out, he would get the coin. He mentions getting 13 coins. 

Sachin was considered a child prodigy featuring an ordinary conservation player in cricket. 

Besides school cricket tournaments, he played for John Bright cricket club in Kanga League. 

Likewise, in 1987 Sachin joined MRF Pace Foundation, intending to become a pace bowler. 

However, Australian pacer Dennis Lillee was not impressed and suggested Sachin entirely focus on his batting.

A few months later, Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian cricketer, gifted Sachin his own ultra-light pads and comforted him not to get discouraged for not winning Best Junior Cricket Award.  

In Cricket World Cup, Sachin became the ball boy in a semi-final match between India and England in the same year.

Next year in 1988, Sachin scored 100 in every match he batted. In the Lord Harris Shield Inter school match, he formed 664 runs partnership with Vinod Kambli against St. Xavier High School. 

He scored 326 in the game. Moreover, that partnership became a world record partnership that remained until 2006.
