Ever since Sergei was a child, he dreamed of becoming a professional football player as Europe was heavily influenced by football.

But, when his parents, Viktor Fedorov and Natalia Fedorov, decided to move to the northern part of the USSR, his priorities changed from football to ice hockey.

The reason was that part of the country had winter for nine months, which meant that it was virtually impossible to practice outside. As a result, young Sergei decided to play ice hockey instead.

Subsequently, the future Hall of Famer honed his skills as Fedorov would spend all of his time practicing and developing his talents whenever he was not in school.

And, the rest is history because the USSR-born player turned out to be probably the best export of the USSR to the NHL.
