Guppies are peaceful fish that like to be kept in groups. They're active swimmers and pretty much move around all the time. You'll often see the males chasing the females trying to impress them by wiggling their fins. If your fish are constantly hiding, it could be an indication that they are stressed or ill.
How many guppies should be kept in a group?
Guppies should be kept in trios – 2 females to each male. Yeah, this is so important we're sayin' it twice. Not only does this better the chances of reproduction, but female guppies are also less likely to become territorial than males- so you're more likely to keep a peaceful aquarium.
Can a guppy be alone?
As guppies are usually seen in groups, many new fish keepers wonder whether they can keep one guppy on its own. It's absolutely fine to keep one guppy alone, particularly if you own a very small tank which would cause cramped conditions if you were to keep several.
