How do you pinch in ageratum?
Simply pinch out or cut off the last inch of the largest growing tip. This will place the plant's energy from leggy shoot to numerous side buds. Ageratum are small plants grown as annuals with a dense growth habit. Flowers are rounded clusters borne from midsummer until first frost.
Does scabiosa need to be pinched?
Other annuals that I find respond well to this terminal pinching include tall ageratum, tall zinnias, tall, marigolds cosmos, scabiosa, and also the herb, basil. In general, it's the taller varieties that are grown for cutting that need this treatment the most.
