Should I Take Nortriptyline with Food?

Nortriptyline comes as a capsule and an oral liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken one to four times a day and may be taken with or without food. Take nortriptyline at around the same times every day.

Can you take nortriptyline on an empty stomach?

Nortriptyline may be taken on an empty or full stomach. You will be told how much to start taking and when to increase the dose. The table at the end of the leaflet will help you remember when to increase the dose. Do not take more than prescribed.

What can you not take with nortriptyline?

Do not use nortriptyline with a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, isocarboxazid [Marplan®], linezolid (Zyvox®), methylene blue, phenelzine [Nardil®], selegiline [Eldepryl®], tranylcypromine [Parnate®]). Do not start using nortriptyline during the 2 weeks after you stop a MAO inhibitor.
