Should Stone Fruit Be Refrigerated?

Stone fruit, such as peaches, plums and nectarines, should be refrigerated only once they're fully ripe. Tomatoes should never be refrigerated. And some fruits and vegetables, such as eggplant, can be refrigerated only briefly before they start suffering damage. It's all about the chill.

How do you store stone fruit?

Leave stone fruits out at room temperature for a day or two to ripen; they're ready when slightly tender to the touch—a firm press with your finger near the stem end will leave a slight dent. Once ripe, store stone fruits in the refrigerator in the crisper drawer, uncovered and unwashed, for up to five days.

Should plums be kept in the refrigerator?

Whole plums should be stored at room temperature until ripened. Once ripe, the plums can be kept whole in a bowl in the refrigerator and covered with Glad® Press n' Seal wrap. Or, to store cut plums, remove pits and cut fruit into chunks or wedges of desired size.
