The main reason inactivity and bed rest isn't needed after an embryo transfer is simple. Inactivity, combined with high levels of estrogen can promote blood clot formation as well as a rise in insulin resistance. These blood clots can impede blood flow critical to embryonic and fetal development.
How long should you rest after embryo transfer?
The first 24 hours after an embryo is transferred are most likely the most critical. It is within this time frame that an embryo has to “attach” to the uterine wall before it can fully implant, which may take several days. Therefore, for the first one to two days, stay home and chill out.
Does bed rest help implantation?
Once you get home there is no need for full best rest. Staying in bed does not increase the chance of successful implantation. What we do advise is that you take it easy for a day or so – and by this we mean no strenuous activity or vigorous exercising.
