Although the Keeshonds' coat makes them look like a demanding breed to groom, they actually make one of the easiest breeds to groom at home. Their hair does not need to be clipped often — in fact, if you plan to show your dog, you should avoid clipping him.
What happens if you shave a Keeshond?
A shaved Keeshond will still shed. But the cut hairs are sharp, and may behave more like the short, sharp hairs of other breeds, which embed themselves tenaciously into furniture and clothing, and are amazingly difficult to remove!
How do you groom a Keeshond?
The basic technique we use is called “line brushing.” We mist the dog lightly with water, part the coat, and then brush along the part. When we've brushed the first area, we make another part and brush it, working our way in sections around the dog until we've brushed the entire dog.
