He is the son of Antonella Cappuccio, a painter, and Luigi Muccino, an RAI executive. His father has roots in Salcito, Campobasso, Molise. His mother was born on Ischia island, Naples, Campania. His brother is director Gabriele Muccino and his sister is casting director Laura Muccino.
