Stephen Thompson and Anthony Pettis fought in the UFC Octagon in March 2019, with Thompson dominating for the majority of the fight due to his height and reach.
However, at the end of the fast and diverse striker, Pettis missed one of Thompson’s strikes and landed a superman punch to brutally knock him out.
During Thompson’s appearance on the Joe Regan Experience podcast, he mentioned that getting knocked out by Pettis was a relief.
“It wasn’t even difficult. I’ve taken more blows. This was right on the money. To be honest, being knocked out felt great. I mean, I’ve had close to 80 fights combining kickboxing and MMA and I’ve never been knocked out…”Thompson also stated that he would rather be knocked out than be badly beaten during the rounds.
“It was always one of those, ‘This is going to be it… this is going to be the time I get knocked out’ moments. This was constantly running through my mind. And now that it has occurred, it isn’t all that bad. I’d rather be knocked out than be beaten for five five-minute rounds…”
