This is one of two quests given to you upon completing the "In the Absence of an Ealdorman" quest.
With Aelfgar's name put forward as a worthy successor to the late Hundbeorht, Eivor sets out to visit the thegn in a bid to get to know him better.

Quest stages of The Thegn of Lincoln
1. Speak to Aelfgar
Go to Aelfgar's estate - Aelfgarstun. You will find Aelfgar in one of the houses. He will give you a bow that once belonged to Hunwald's father, which he left with him after one of their hunting trips - Hunbeorht's Bow. Afterwards Aelfar will invite you for a bear hunt.
2. Follow Aelfgar
Ride with Aelfgar until you reach a small lake where you will meet another person who will take part in the hunt - Grim.
3. Search the cave for the bear
Enter the cave and approach the horse carcass lying there. When you do this, a few wolves will run out of a side corridor.
4. Eliminate the wolves
Kill all the wolves. Aelfgar will help you do that.
5. Regroup with Grim
Run through the second tunnel out of the cave...
...and then you will see that Aelfgar's estate is on fire.
6. Reach Aelfgar's Estate / Clear out the attackers
Run or ride to the village and kill any Saxon soldiers you come across there.
7. Speak to Aelfgar
When you get rid of all the enemies then talk to Aelfgar. He will thank you for your help and this quest will end.
The bear you were supposed to hunt will come to the village, so you can help to kill it if you want.
After completing The Thegn of Lincoln you will get or will be able to get Where the Stone Falls (1 of 2).
