Toledo Man to Serve 33 Year's for Drug Offenses

A Toledo man was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Wednesday after he was convicted by a Wood County
jury on 21 drug-related charges in June.
Cody Michael Halka, 23, was sentenced to prison by Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Alan Mayberry.
Many of the 21 counts were merged into nine counts prior to the sentencing. He was also ordered to pay
four separate mandatory $10,000 fines for a total of $40,000.
The 33 years include 11 years each on two counts of trafficking in cocaine, both with a specification as
a major drug offender; and 11 years for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Those three counts
are all first-degree felony offenses and the judge ordered those sentences to be served consecutively,
for the 33 years.
The other six merged counts were ordered to be served concurrent with each other and concurrent with the
three counts named above. Those sentences ordered were 17 months for trafficking in cocaine, a
fourth-degree felony; 10 years each for two counts of trafficking in cocaine, second-degree felonies; 11
months for trafficking in drugs, a third-degree offense; 30 months for tampering with evidence, a
third-degree felony; and 11 months for possessing criminal tools; a fifth-degree offense.
Halka declined a plea bargain offer for a guilty plea of 25 years in prison, prior to the trial.
Halka will also be subject to a minimum mandatory five years of post-release control sanctions once
released from prison,
Court officials said that after the sentencing one woman caused a disturbance and was escorted out of the
courtroom, after she was verbally abusive to a prosecuting attorney.
