Trent Madden

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Wichita State University. In my freshman year I started working at the National Institute for Aviation Research, where I conducted industry research in material science and emerging manufacturing technologies. This research led me to Dassault Systèmes, where I developed a flexible simulation model of the human heart and its proximal vasculature. Working on a clinically relevant project inspired me to pursue the MD/PhD dual degree. I transitioned to academic research in Dr. Jaydip Desai’s Neurorobotics Lab at Wichita State University. In this lab I designed body-powered prosthetics to help patients with partial finger amputations. Also at Wichita State, I researched in Dr. Nils Hakansson’s Biomechanics Lab. I compared multiple exoskeletons’ abilities to minimize fatigue-related shoulder injuries. After graduating, I spent a year in Dr. William Groutas’s synthetic organic chemistry lab at WSU. In this lab I produced orally bioavailable inhibitors for SARS-CoV-2 3CL-protease.
