He was born James J. Rosemond on 5th February 1965 in Harlem, New York, the United States of America. He was raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York in an apartment known as Vanderveer Gardens alongside his 4 siblings.
His parents were originally from Haiti but relocated to the United States in the 1960s. One of his brothers who goes by the name Kesner Rosemond is a hip-hop talent agent.
Growing up must have been tough for the 59 years old and his siblings considering the fact that his mother was left alone to fend for the family. This is because his parents divorced when he was just a boy.
1. Drug Trafficking, Money Laundering and Obstruction of Justice
The 59 years old’s criminal activities started becoming public in 2010 after he was arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking, money laundering, and obstruction of justice. Two years later his trial began and was represented by Gerald Shargel in May 2012.
A month later, he was convicted in a Federal District Court in Brooklyn of there charges mentioned above. The financial crimes he was alleged to have committed were linked to his position as the arrowhead of a multi-million dollar international cocaine network.
During the trial, it was reported that he was at the forefront of a huge trafficking network that conveyed cocaine from Los Angeles, California to the New York metropolitan area. The group called the Rosemond Organization was involved in shipping cash proceeds from the sales back to Los Angeles using various techniques as part of its modus operandi.
Money running into millions of dollars in cash and narcotics were sent via Federal Express and United Parcel Service, always concealed in mustard to evade identification by detection dogs. According to prosecutors, Henchman made more than $11 million yearly since 2007 through drug trafficking.
Henchman was given a life sentence on 25th October 2013. He subsequently relinquished cash and property approximately worth $14 million as part of his sentence. He was accused as a thug in a suit who uses music as a cover.
3 years after the sentence, he sought a new trial by filing for a hebas corpus appeal. However, the appeal was dismissed in 2019.
2. Murder Case
Meanwhile, in 2012, the music executive was charged with 4 offenses, connected to the murder of G-Unit affiliate Lowell Fletcher A.K.A Lodi Mack. The charges include; murder for hire and conspiracy to commit murder.
He was accused of arranging the murder as revenge for an alleged assault on his son James Rosemond Jr. by Tony Yayo. The trial began in February 2014 with more than 35 witnesses testifying at the trial. A month later, the arguments were closed, and the jury discussions ended in a hung-up jury.
Later on, the jury found him guilty of all charges for the murder of Lodi Mack. He was sentenced to life in prison with an additional 20 years in his murder-for-hire case.
He lost his appeal in 2020 at the Second Circuit U.S Court of Appeals. And the court reached an agreement that his murder-for-hire conviction was correct.
