Best Loved Hymns Viii: Mansion over the Hilltop

Because I haven’t heard this played for quite some time, here’s a Southern Gospel song written by Ira Stanphill in 1949.

“Mansion Over the Hilltop” by Dailey & Vincent

This duo’s harmony never disappoints. By listening to them, you’ll get to love and appreciate the song more. Hence, they’re among the Gospel singers we love to feature.

The Songwriter

Ira Forest Stanphill (February 14, 1914 – December 30, 1993)

A gifted musician, he was already composing songs at age 17. In fact, he wrote over 550 gospel songs in his lifetime. Added to his being active in crusades, revivals and tent meetings, people across the country were much familiar with his name. In 1981, he was inducted into the GMA Hall of Fame. Two years later, his autobiography, This Side of Heaven, got published. At his departure from this world, his remains were buried in Johnson County Chapel and Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas.
