They were heavily inspired by the Slender Man with their design and behavior being very reminiscent of his, most notably their abnormal height and lanky arms. Endermen are humanoid, stick figure styled creatures with long arms and legs, glowing purple eyes, and have a purple particle effect surrounding their body.
What is the Enderman based off of?
The Enderman is a neutral mob introduced in Beta 1.8. They appear tall with long arms and creepy eyes, loosely based on the Slenderman. They give away purple particles when they teleport.
Where did Endermen originate?
The Enderman was first created before the release of Beta 1.8 the Adventure update. The mob used to emit smoke, which was later replaced by the purple particles found close to Nether and End portals in Minecraft. In Beta 1.8, the Enderman used to drop diamonds, as a placeholder for Ender Pearls.
