Was Floki the Boatbuilder Real?

In fiction
Floki the boat builder, a character played by Swedish actor Gustaf Skarsgård in the History channel's Vikings television series, is loosely based on Hrafna-Flóki Vilgerðarson. In season 5 of the show he arrives in Iceland, believing he has found Asgard.

Did Floki really discover Iceland?

Six years later, Floki Vilgerdarson was the first Viking to set out for Iceland and find it. Floki gave the island its present name of Iceland. However, it wasn't until 870 that people arrived to settle in Iceland.

How did the real life Floki die?

Unfortunately, there is no mention in Norse sagas or historical sources how the real Floki died. He most likely died of old age or an illness. There is also no mention of him dying in battle. However, there is no mention of Floki entering an active volcano as portrayed in Vikings.
