What Are Bearing Seals

Bearing Seals, also known as grease seals, are used to protect tapered, spherical, cylindrical and double-row bearings from excess grease loss and contamination. In 1956, Clark Seals partnered with The Timken Company to develop the industry’s first precision bearings seals for tapered roller bearings.

Why are seal bearings used?

Sealed spherical roller bearings are able to handle high loads and large misalignments, with effective protection against dirt, and at the same time maintain lubrication. The sealing adds a number of attributes: The bearing is protected against external contamination. Lubricant is kept in place.

What is a labyrinth seal used for?

A labyrinth seal is a type of mechanical seal that provides a tortuous path to help prevent leakage. An example of such a seal is sometimes found within an axle’s bearing to help prevent the leakage of the oil lubricating the bearing.
