Landing, or platform: A landing is the area of a floor near the top or bottom step of a stair. An intermediate landing is a small platform that is built as part of the stair between main floor levels and is typically used to allow stairs to change directions, or to allow the user a rest.

How many steps should there be before a landing?

For general access stairs a maximum allowance of 12 steps before a landing is required. With utility stairs, a maximum of 16 steps is allowed before a landing.

  2. Step 2: Make Lower-stair Stringers.
  3. Step 3: Install Center Stringers.
  4. Step 4: Attach Stringers to Pad.
  5. Step 5: Attach Toe-kick.
  6. Step 6: Attach Stringers to Toe-kick.
