What is a brindle color?

Brindle is a coat coloring pattern in animals, particularly dogs, cattle, guinea pigs, cats, and, rarely, horses. It is sometimes described as "tiger-striped", although the brindle pattern is more subtle than that of a tiger's coat. Brindle typically appears as black stripes on a red base.

Is brindle rare in dogs?

Brindle Dachshunds are rare, but both long-haired and short-haired Doxies can carry the gene. The dachshund has been known to carry the brindle gene on occasion. It's definitely not as common with this breed as it is with pups like the American Mastiff or any type of bulldog or american pitbull terrier.
