What is DLL in Linux?

.so file is equivalent for a dll file on Linux. An . so file is a compiled library file. It stands for “Shared Object” and is analogous to a Windows DLL. Often, package files will place these under /lib or /usr/lib or some place similar when they’re installed.

dll files will only be used when needed. Dynamic links help programs use resources, such as memory and hard drive space, more efficiently. DLL files can also be used by more than one program. In fact, they can even be used by multiple programs at the same time.
