Rhetoric – the art or study of using language and the skill of using language effectively and persuasively – is an important tool that is offered in UWM’s Rhetorical Leadership Program. It’s a concentration in the Communication Master’s program or a stand-alone graduate certificate.

Aristotle taught that a speaker’s ability to persuade an audience is based on how well the speaker appeals to that audience in three different areas: logos, ethos, and pathos. Considered together, these appeals form what later rhetoricians have called the rhetorical triangle.
