What Does Proper Attribution Mean

Attribution means crediting the source where information or a direct quotation was obtained if it wasn’t your own firsthand knowledge. Attribution usually includes the full name of the person providing the quoted material or relevant info, and their job title (if needed to show why the source was used).

How do you properly attribute?

  1. Title: The title of the image.
  2. Author: The name of the creator.
  3. Source: The URL where the image is hosted (plus optional link to author profile).
  4. License: The type of Creative Commons license it is available under, including a link to the relevant license.

What is an example of attribution in writing?

Examples: She said, “The car began sliding sideways, and then it hit the tree.” She said the car slid sideways and then hit the tree. Said: “Said” is the best word of attribution most of the time.
