Bolo Yeung was born Yeung Sze on July 3, 1946, in Guangzhou, Canton, mainland China. Not much is known about his parents, but his father was reportedly a local businessman.
Yeung spent his childhood in Guangzhou, where he started learning martial arts as a child. He studied Kung Fu under several masters in the city. Additionally, he also learnt aerobics and started doing weight training. Over time, he started competing as a powerlifter, eventually becoming the national power-lifting champion of mainland China.
