Six park rangers have been killed after an attack at the famous Virunga National Park in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Officials have blamed the attack on a militia group known as Mai-Mai, one of many that operate in the region.

How many rangers have died protecting Virunga When were the last rangers killed and how many?

Last April, 13 rangers were murdered in what park officials described as a “ferociously violent and sustained” attack by another armed group. In January, six rangers, patrolling the park’s boundary on foot, were killed in an ambush by militias. All of those who died were aged between 25 and 30.
