What Happens During Diplotene

Diplotene. During this phase the two homologous chromosomes begin to migrate apart as the ‘synaptonemal complex’ disintegrates between the two chromosomal arms and they begin to repel one another. This allows the two chromosome to move apart, held only by the chiasma(ta).

What happens in the Diplotene stage?

Diplotene stage is characterized by desynapsis and chiasmata formation. In the diplotene stage synaptonemal complex formed during zygotene dissolve and desynapsis of homologous chromosomes start. Homologous chromosomes separate from each other except at the sites of crossing over called chiasmata.

What happens during Diplotene stage of prophase 1?

After recombination has occurred, the synaptonemal complex begins to break down, and the two components (known as the homologues) begin to separate from each other. This phase is called diplotene.
