What Is a Degu Pet?

Degus are small, burrowing rodents native to Chile that make great pets. In the wild, they live in communities of up to 100, much like prairie dogs. These social, curious animals are one of the few rodents that are awake during the day (diurnal), which adds to their pet appeal.

Are degus good pets?

Degus are very intelligent and highly sociable animals that love to play and explore. They have a friendly nature and are outgoing little rodents. They make fantastic pets, but need a lot of care and aren't an animal you should choose on a whim.

Are degus smelly pets?

As with all animals they only smell if you don't clean them, and is also dependent on what floor covering you use. But generally, I find them less smelly than other rodents.
