What Is a Diabetic Hypo?

A low blood sugar level, also called hypoglycaemia or a "hypo", is where the level of sugar (glucose) in your blood drops too low. It mainly affects people with diabetes, especially if they take insulin. A low blood sugar level can be dangerous if it's not treated quickly, but you can usually treat it easily yourself.

What does a diabetic hypo feel like?

Symptoms of a hypo:

Feeling hungry, shaking, sweating. Seeing less. Headache – feeling very warm or cold. Mood swings, loss of concentration.

What are the symptoms of a diabetic hyper?

Symptoms of hyperglycaemia
  • increased thirst and a dry mouth.
  • needing to pee frequently.
  • tiredness.
  • blurred vision.
  • unintentional weight loss.
  • recurrent infections, such as thrush, bladder infections (cystitis) and skin infections.
  • tummy pain.
  • feeling or being sick.
