What Is a Fat Albert Tree

A variety of Colorado Blue Spruce, Fat Albert is a popular tree for colder regions, thriving in zones 2-8. It grows upright, with full branches radiating horizontally from the ground for a striking shape. Its branches feature dense needles in a rich silver-blue, making the tree stand out in your lawn or garden.

How big do Fat Albert trees get?

It typically grows 30-60′ tall in cultivation, but may reach 100′ or more where it grows naturally. It is native to the central Rocky Mountains from southern Montana and eastern Idaho south to New Mexico where it is typically found growing in moist locations from 6000 to 11000 feet in elevation.

Can you Trim Fat Albert Spruce?

This is a relatively low maintenance tree. When pruning is necessary, it is recommended to only trim back the new growth of the current season, other than to remove any dieback. Deer don’t particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats.
