Reset Done. D.C. police are becoming increasingly alarmed over an illegal device called a giggle switch that can turn a semiautomatic pistol into a fully automatic machine gun. In recent weeks, officers have found as many as five of them on the backs of pistols in two neighborhoods in Northeast.
How does a giggle switch work?
On a website, the company advertised the “Glock Auto Switch,” saying the product would convert all models of Glock pistols to “Full Auto.” The device operates by applying force to the trigger bar to prevent it from limiting the weapon to firing only one round each time the trigger is depressed.
Are giggle switches illegal?
The devices themselves are considered machine guns and they're illegal for anyone to own. Galloway says the ATF has been tracking shipments of these devices from overseas but some are even being made right here in Southern California.
