Lupoid Dermatosis, also known as Exfoliative Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus is a monogenic (controlled by one gene) autosomal recessive disease that has been described in German Shorthaired Pointers and Vizslas. Clinical signs become apparent before one year of age.
How do you test for Lupoid dermatosis?
The most effective way to diagnose lupoid dermatosis is skin scrapings and biopsies. These tests will likely reveal the detection of edema, hyperkeratosis, and degeneration of some skin cells.
Are GSP prone to allergies?
Pointer's are susceptible to food intolerances, contact allergens, and inhalant allergies all of which can manifest as itchy skin patches and bumps. Their short coat is glossy and sharp, but overall does not offer them much protection from environmental allergens.
