What Is a Marine Bathroom?

Similar to toilets on land, most marine toilets have a seat, a bowl and flush with water. However, as there is no sewage system on a boat, marine toilets store waste in a holding tank until it can be disposed onshore. They generally come in two forms: cassette toilets and pump-out toilets.

Can you poop in a boat toilet?

Marine heads are self-contained and need to be manually pumped or dumped after each trip. It's a smelly, messy job that most boat owners prefer to avoid. It's a good idea to ask about bathroom rules before stepping onboard a boat with a toilet. Sometimes pee is ok but poop is probably off limits.

Can toilet paper go in marine toilets?

Never flush anything that didn't come out of you.

Hopefully you already know that the only thing that should go down your marine head is human waste and toilet paper — with no exceptions.
