What Is a Nate Certification

What is NATE Certification? NATE is a coalition made up of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and ASHRAE® (the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers). The organization certifies heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians with a series of tests.

What does it mean to be NATE certified?

NATE is an acronym for North American Technician Excellence. This is the largest non-profit certification group in the nation dedicated to heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration technicians. As a non-profit, NATE is owned, developed, operated, and supported by the HVAC industry as a whole.

How long is a NATE certification good for?

NATE certifications must be renewed every two years. Renewal requires either submitting 16 continuing education hours (CEHs) every two years, or retaking the specialty exam only, before the end of the two-year certification period.
