What Is a Seed Tape

Seed tapes are a pre-sown product of single or multiple species of seeds that are already spaced between tissue layers at the correct distance for growing. Many flower, vegetable, or herb seeds can be purchased already incorporated into these products.

What seeds are good in seed tape?

Seed tape is great for tiny seeds such as: carrots, lettuces, herbs, and greens (spinach, collards, kale). Medium-sized seeds like watermelon, cucumbers, pumpkins, and squashes may work for this project, but large seeds like beans and corn will be too heavy and bulky for this project.

Do you need to thin seed tape?

You can even cut the tapes and mats with normal scissors to fit the space you have available. When the seedlings appear there’s no need to thin them out as this has been done for you when the tapes and mats were produced.
