What Is a Spell Modifier

What is spell modifier used for?

The Spell Attack Bonus (sometimes called spell attack modifier) is one of the stats on the spells page of your character sheet along with Spellcasting Ability and Spell Save DC. Together they represent your character’s affinity for spellcasting.

How is spell modifier calculated?

Your spell attack modifier is equal to your Wisdom modifier + your proficiency bonus, which equals +4 in this case. This means that if you cast a spell that requires a spell attack roll, you will roll a d20 and add 4 to it.
