Diagnosis: Quadrigeminal plate cistern lipoma/tectal plate lipoma. Discussion. Intracranial lipomas are rare, slow-growing, benign congenital lesions accounting for 0.1-0.5 percent of all primary brain tumors and are usually detected as incidental findings.
What is cistern lipoma?
Quadrigeminal cistern lipomas make up approximately 25% of intracranial lipomas and are located within the quadrigeminal cistern. They may be associated with hypoplasia of the inferior colliculus or agenesis of the corpus callosum. For a general discussion please refer to the article on intracranial lipomas.
What does the Tectal plate do?
The tectal plate is responsible for auditory and visual reflexes. It is derived in embryonic development from the alar plate of the neural tube.
