What Is a Voiding Trial

Wareing (2001) describes a TWOC or voiding trial as a common procedure carried out in many clinical settings. The purpose of the trial is to assess patients’ ability to empty their bladder successfully following the removal of their indwelling urinary catheter.

What does void trial mean?

A Trial of Void, also referred to as Trial Without Catheter, involves removal of the urethral catheter and an assessment of the patient’s ability to spontaneously urinate. If successful, the patient may avoid or delay surgical intervention and possibly be managed medically.

How long does a trial without catheter take?
