What Is Baked on Paint

Baked coatings provide a one-time hard, tough finish that is stronger and corrosion-resistant. These glossy paints or varnishes are sprayed or painted on aluminum or steel. The finish is heated, or baked, at temperatures that reach at least 150 degrees in order for the oil or synthetic resin to bind and develop.

What does baking do to paint?

A baked finish results from baking paint onto a surface at temperatures exceeding 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Baking paint onto metal decreases the curing time of the object. This increases the production rate of painting when dealing with multiple objects, or when dealing with layered coats of differing colors.

Is baked enamel the same as powder coating?

Whereas baked enamel will act more like a sheet of material that sits on top of the substrate and is easily flaked into chips. Simply put powder coating has the upper hand as its process is electrically adhered to the chemistry of the paint to keep it from peeling or flaking.
