What Is Brue

A Brief Resolved Unexplained Event (BRUE) happens suddenly and can be scary for parents and caregivers. When a BRUE occurs, babies may seem to stop breathing. Their skin color may change to pale or blue.

What causes Brue?

The main risk factors for BRUE are: A prior episode when the child stopped breathing, turned pale, or had blue coloring. Feeding problems. Recent head cold or bronchitis.

Is there a link between SIDS and Brue?

Although the relationship between a BRUE or an ALTE and SIDS is unclear, children who have had 2 or more events have a higher risk of SIDS.
