Detuning is dulling or rounding of the edges in selected areas of the tip and tail using a file or stone so that the ski or snowboard is less grabby and doesn't turn in or initiate too quickly. It's often done when the board or skis first come from the factory.
Should I detune snowboard?
When it comes to detuning your board, you always want to detune the Tip and Tail. This is essential for Cambered boards. It's not essential for Reverse Cambered boards but we would still advise you to do it, so you get the most out of your board and increase it's longevity.
Where do you detune a snowboard?
The area to detune will be all the way around the nose and tail to the widest point of the board and then a little over an inch in beyond that. This part of the snowboard's edge is not used to carve or for grip so having it sharp can essentially cause more harm than good.
