What Is Hue in Paint

In painting, a hue is a pure pigment—one without tint or shade (added white or black pigment, respectively). Hues are first processed in the brain in areas in the extended V4 called globs.

How do you make a paint hue?

  1. The primary colors are red, blue, and yellow.
  2. When you mix two primary colors together, you get a secondary color (green, purple, and orange).
  3. When you mix all three primary colors together, or a secondary color with a primary color, you get a tertiary color.

How would you describe hue?

Hue is described with the words we normally think of as describing color: red, purple, blue, etc. Value (lightness) describes overall intensity to how light or dark a color is.It is the only dimension of color that may exist by itself. Chroma (saturation) may be defined as the strength or dominance of the hue.
