Metal Effects® Rust Activator is used over Metal Effects Oxidizing Iron Paint. This combination creates a beautiful real, rusted metal finish. Ideal for use on properly prepared metal, wood, plaster, canvas, paper and most plastic surfaces.
How does rust activator work?
Rust Activator is an acidic solution in water and when applied over Oxidizing Iron Paint will react with the real metal particles in the paint, thus speeding up the oxidization process creating a beautiful, authentic Rust finish.
How do you make activator rust?
First, you’ll need to create a rusting solution by combining 16oz hydrogen peroxide, 2oz white vinegar, and ½ tablespoon of salt. If possible, mix this solution in the spray bottle with some of the leftover white vinegar. Shake it up so that everything mixes well, and then start spraying down your object.
