What Is Schistosomus Reflexus?

Schistosomus Reflexus (SR) is a birth defect resulting in the malformation of the entire body. Calves with this condition are commonly not able to pass through the birth canal, and must be retrieved by c-section or fetotomy.

What causes a calf to be born inside out?

Stress and lack of oxygen during calving can result in stillborn calves; however, these losses often are attributed to other causes, Stokka notes. Dystocia and stillbirths are more likely to occur in first-calf heifers because of a small pelvic area, and in cows that are overly conditioned or too thin.

What causes hydrocephalus in calves?

Hydrocephalus occurs mainly due to three reasons, as excessive production of CSF, defective absorption of CSF,and interference in the passage of CSF.
