What Is Sun Brewed Tea

Sun tea is brewed in a warm place, such as in the summer sun or on a kitchen counter. You don’t have to boil water like other iced tea methods require to make sun tea—simply add water and tea bags to a glass jar, let steep and the tea is ready to drink within hours.

What is the difference between sun tea and regular tea?

In general, teas brewed suing sunlight tend to have a milder flavor than those brewed using hot water or boiling water. That’s because sun tea never really gets above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Even the most delicate teas such as white tea and green tea are brewed at 150 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

Is Sun brewed tea safe?

And technically, yes, this method is not strictly safe. Our reading shows that the 130°F or so that the water reaches is an ideal temperature for harboring (and growing) the bacteria commonly found in tap water. Without a boiling session to kill off this bacteria, there is the chance that they will grow in the sun tea.
