How does Carrier Ethernet differ from Metro Ethernet?

While similar in function, Metro Ethernet and Carrier Ethernet differ in their scope of usage. While Carrier Ethernet may include Metro Ethernet, the latter does not include the former. Carrier Ethernet is much more versatile and has evolved since its inception in the early 2000s, when Metro Ethernet was the standard.
