What Is Tipp in Dbt

One of our favourite DBT skills is called ‘TIPP’. TIPP stands for – Temperature –Intense Exercise –Paced breathing and – Paired muscle relaxation.

What does Tipp mean in DBT?

The DBT distress tolerance skill you need is TIPP . This skill is designed to bring you down from the metaphorical (hopefully not literal) ledge. TIPP stands for Temperature, Intense exercise, Paced breathing, and Paired muscle relaxation.

Why does Tipp work?

Just as with the temperature TIPP skill, paced breathing works by activating our parasympathetic nervous system. This, in turn, will slow our heart rate and decrease emotional intensity. Breathe into your belly to allow for a deeper and slower breath cycle.
