What Qualifies as Obese

What weight means obese?

A BMI of 30 and higher is considered obese. The higher the BMI, the greater the risk of developing additional health problems. A healthy weight is considered to be a BMI of 24 or less. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight.

Is 250 pounds considered obese?

If a person’s weight is 245 pounds (lb) or under, they should use the first chart. If their weight is over 250 lb, they should look at the second one. The shaded areas correspond to BMI values that indicate either a moderate weight, overweight, or obesity.
